If you have an empty wall in your room, you could easily turn it in to one of the most prominent tools of visual collaboration with the help of dry erase paint. Rather than buying a whiteboard in order to chart out your thoughts and ideas, why not turn the whole wall in to a large board to write on? Whiteboards are also known as dry erase boards (since you can easily remove the writing when done). However, if you do not want to be limited by the size of a whiteboard, a single coat of dry erase paint on your wall is enough. This type of paint is designed solely for people who do not care about wallpapers or custom designs as much as their productivity. Here’s how to apply this type of paint:
The Planning
Dry erase paint is made out of special material that coats the walls. Application of the paint is as simple as applying regular paint. However, it is important to ensure that no area is left out. While applying the paint, it is important to ensure that the area is properly ventilated. Dry erase paint has a very strong odor during application, so it can make you a bit queasy. To apply the paint, you will first need to prime the walls using a high quality primer. Most dry erase paint manufacturers come with recommendations about which primer you should use with the paint.
1. Purchases
Before you begin applying the paint, you will need to buy proper supplies. High quality brushes and painter’s tape will be needed. Painter’s tape is needed to tape off any surfaces that you do not want to paint, such as window sills or baseboards. Next, dust and clean the surface where the paint will be applied thoroughly. It is important to make the surface as smooth as possible. You might even have to sand the surface. Commonly, a120- grit sandpaper is recommended.
2. Prime the Wall
Apply at least two coats of primer and then wait for it to dry. You might even have to let the primer dry overnight. Once the primer has completely dried, sand it gently again and then wipe the wall carefully with a dry cloth (clean) to ensure that all specks of dust are removed.
3. Mix and Paint
You will also need to mix the paint properly. Only mix the amount that you will apply on the wall. After mixing, you must apply the paint within an hour, so plan your approach accordingly. Use a roller in order to cover every inch of the wall that you are painting. Then, let it dry. It takes a minimum of seven days for the paint to dry, so cordon off the area for a week at least. Lo and behold, you have just created a new writing wall!
