Making the workplace as safe as possible is the number one priority of any supervisor or employee. If you have all of the safety measure covered, what else could you possibly need? A self-retracting lifeline will make your workplace safer, helping to prevent falls and injuries during every day work.
How Does It Work?
Self-retracting lifelines allow you to work without any limitations in your workspace. With tension always on the lifeline you know that there is always a backup just in case you were to fall. If you do fall, a brake quickly activates, stopping the fall.
Self-Retracting Lifelines or Lanyards?
Many already in the business may believe that lanyards are better than a lifeline because it is familiar to them. However, looking below will show you that self-retracting lifelines have a better possibility of safely stopping a fall. Self-retracing lifelines:
* Will stop the fall after only eight or nine inches, and has a total clearance of six and a half feet
* Comes in lengths up to 600 feet
* Allows the user to go as far as they need, and will retract as they move backwards
Lanyards:
* User can only go as far as the length of the lanyard
* Requires 18 ½ feet of clearance
* During a fall the user must fall six feet before the lanyard begins to stop the fall
Tips for Your Self-Retracting Lifeline
When using your lifeline there are some tips that you need to keep in mind in order to always maintain a safe work environment.
* Remember that self-retracting lifelines are not all that you need to prepare for in terms of safety. There are various other pieces, including anchors, hooks, and connectors, that need to be taken out into the field with you and your employees. Helmets and goggles should also be worn at all times.
* Always maintain a safe clearing distance. Remember that your self-retracting lifeline needs to be placed correctly so that if a fall were to happen it would save you from hitting the ground or even a wall.
* This goes to say that by placing the lifeline in the correct position you will prevent falling to the ground, as well as swing fall hazards.
* Double check that your self-retracting lifeline is pristine condition. Always check for fraying or any other damage to the lifeline before you begin use.
Make sure your workplace is safe. Look into self-retracting lifelines.
