Choosing the wrong contractor to complete your siding project can result in delays in project completion, costly mistakes, and frustration for you as the homeowner.  Fortunately, there are several indicators as to whether or not a siding contractor is a trustworthy, reliable company to do business with.  Before signing a contract with a home improvement specialist, ask the following questions of your potential contractor to ensure that you’ll get the service and quality you’re being promised.

What is the address of the company’s offices?
Be sure that the company you are considering has a business office that can be contacted and visited within normal business hours.  Business with an actual office location are often more reliable than those who operate out of a truck or don’t have a brick and mortar location.

Is the company insured?
A siding contractor, like any other home improvement specialist, should carry insurance to ensure they follow the appropriate safety regulations and look out for the best interests of their employees and clients.  Ask about both liability and worker’s compensation insurance, and request proof that these policies exist.

Is the contractor licensed?
While not all states require that contractors be licensed, find out if yours does, and check to make sure that any contracting company you hire for your home improvement needs has met the appropriate licensing requirements for your area.

How long has the company been in business?
Longevity in the industry speaks volumes to the ability of a siding contractor to carry out projects efficiently and thoroughly.  Remember, a company that has been in business for several years most likely has a long list of customers who refer friends to the company, as well as use the company for repeat service needs themselves.

Will the contractor provide references?
Ask your contractor for a list of past clients who will serve as references.  If a contractor cannot readily provide you with a list of happy customers, think twice before signing on the dotted line.  Similarly, once you receive a list of references, make it a point to contact each customer on the list to verify that they were happy with the service received from the contracting company in question.
