Most people know what diving is, but there are many other factors involved than simply being able to dive. If you just want to dive for pleasure while on vacation or for fun, then simple SCUBA training could be beneficial. However, for those that want to dive commercially for pay, you will need to have extensive training, which is what public safety diver training can teach.
What is it?
The public safety diver course helps to reduce accidents by providing more knowledge about different diving equipment types, how to operate that equipment safely and important emergency procedures that should be used during different kinds of emergencies.
Objectives of the Training
Through the courses, you will learn how diving procedures and equipment work, will be able to demonstrate how to use the air manifold properly and safely, how to use the mask/helmet and provide the required daily maintenance of the equipment. You will also be able to explain fittings used for air manifolds and hoses, explain and show proper techniques for getting into and out of the water and learn and demonstrate the proper safety procedures for emergency needs.
While you should already have first aid and CPR training, you will learn how to prevent and treat heat and cold problems that are common to diving, air embolism, decompression sicknesses and other diving relating situations.
Courses Included
Through hands-on and book training, you will learn about advanced diver rescues, emergency procedures, diving physics, how to tie knots and rigging underwater and how to remove unconscious divers from the water using two common methods, the diver stokes and easy lift harness. Other courses will be included, depending on the public safety diver training facility you select.
Completion Options
The training course for the public safety diver will include a certificate of completion. This is a specialty course that may or may not be required through your employer. The course will take 40 hours to complete and can be done in five days. In most cases, you will be expected to arrive at the training center for five consecutive days, at eight hours each day. However, you may be able to talk with the instructors or facility if you cannot complete an entire five-day course in one week.
Requested Audience
This type of course is meant for divers with public safety, FBI, scientific, engineer and Home Land Security personnel. These people must be trained in SCUBA diving already and need additional or specialized training and knowledge for use with Surface-Supplied equipment.
Public safety diver training is a requirement for many commercial divers, so consider getting your training through Kirby Morgan Professional Dive Center.
