Patients in Ohio with qualifying medical and psychological conditions can obtain a medical marijuana card, also known as a medical card, through a specific process. This process is not offered by a family doctor or a specialist but rather through a state-approved medical marijuana doctor.
All medical marijuana doctors in Ohio complete additional training to be approved to make a medical marijuana recommendation. In addition to the training, the MMJ doctor must also pass an exam and maintain a current state medical license. This ensures the doctor making the recommendation for medical marijuana has the required knowledge to support the treatment of the patient.
Steps in the Process
Patients book a telemedicine appointment online with an approved medical marijuana doctor to obtain a medical card. At least 24 hours before the appointment, the patient must provide the required information to allow the medical marijuana to review their medical files.
The telemedine appointment allows the MMJ doctor to discuss symptoms, health issues, medications, and any concerns the patient may have about the use of medical marijuana. At the conclusion of the appointment, the MMJ doctor will make a recommendation for medical marijuana if the patient has one or more qualifying medical and psychological conditions and enter information into the registry.
Getting The MMJ Card
The patient receives an email and clicks on the link to access the registry, complete the registration, and make the required payment to the state. After this is completed, the patient receives their medical card in Ohio to purchase medical marijuana from any dispensary in the state.
