The Parts of a Transformer
There are several different things that make up the modern transformer. Inside, you’ll find two different wire coils that are placed around a core. These are known as the primary and secondary coils. The primary coil hooks up to the power source. The secondary coil handles the outgoing voltage.
The core also plays a critical role. The core is responsible for changing the flow of the voltage. As an electromagnetic device, the coil can limit or increase voltage at any time. This makes up the other main component of the modern transformer.
The Workings of Transformers
The main thing to know about custom transformers is that they do not produce energy. This is a common misconception. Instead, these devices receive electricity and transfer it to another circuit. This occurs as soon as electric waves enter the transformer through the primary coil. Then, the output coil changes the electrical current into the right voltage.
Transformer Types
There are actually a few different types of transformers. Isolation transformers have two different windings that are wound separately. This is what adds the isolation aspect to these transformers. Autotransformers add a portion of the secondary winding to the primary winding. This is done through a connecting wire. These models also use copper wire. They are best suited for foreign appliances that use different voltages.
