Although wearing glasses can help correct your vision, LASIK surgery is an option to consider that will restore your vision to just about 20/20. The procedure is painless, and you’ll be able to see well within a few days after the surgery. Before going to a LASIK center in Jacksonville, here are a few details to keep in mind so that you know a bit more about what to expect.

Initial Appointments

When you meet your doctor about your vision, you’ll have an eye exam to determine the severity of the condition of your eyes. If you’ve been wearing glasses or contacts, then your doctor will likely want to get readings while you’re wearing them and without wearing them. After you’ve made the decision with your doctor that LASIK is the best option to consider, you’ll talk about how the procedure is performed and what to expect during recovery.

The Procedure

After arriving at the LASIK center in Jacksonville, you’ll meet with a nurse to discuss any medications that you’ve taken that day and to ensure that you haven’t had anything to eat or drink. A sedative can be given to help you relax for the procedure. Drops will be administered in your eyes to ensure that they are clean. These drops will also numb your eyes so that you won’t feel anything that the doctor does during surgery. Your eyes will be kept open during the surgery. Once you’re comfortable, a laser is gently used to make a flap so that the laser can then repair the cornea of each eye. During the procedure, your doctor might ask you to look at a light in the distance as a way to help you focus on something else aside from the laser. When you get home, you’ll wear special goggles and will need to place drops in your eyes until they are healed.
